The PEACEful Parenting Podcast, Season 1, Ep. 18: "Children At School"

In this episode, Katalin and Mariana discuss the child’s experience at a Montessori School. We chat about the prepared adult, the prepared environment, and the long periods of uninterrupted time the child has to construct themselves. As Montessori teachers, they both discuss their own work in Montessori and how understanding and centering the child’s experience can help us understand our parenting today.

The PEACEful Parenting Podcast, Season 1, Ep. 13: "Montessori and Medical School"

Katalin and Mariana discuss Maria Montessori’s time in medical school. Maria Montessori was one of the first female doctors in Italy and we take a look back in history to understand a little about her experience pursing this career and her later application of what she had learned in the field of education. As Montessori teachers, they both discuss what her work as a medical doctor means to the Montessori method and how understanding the history can help us understand our parenting today.

The PEACEful Parenting Podcast, Season 1, Ep. 6: "Mario Montessori"

Katalin and Mariana discuss Mario Montessori, Maria Montessori son and only child. They take a look back in time to understand Montessori’s life at the time she was expecting Mario and their travels together, as well as Mario’s enduring impact on the Montessori movement and legacy. As Montessori teachers, they both discuss what Mario’s work in Montessori means to them and how understanding the history can help us understand our parenting today.

The PEACEful Parenting Podcast, Season 1, Ep. 7: "An Assistant To Infancy"

Katalin and Mariana discuss the idea of an "Assistant to Infancy," where in Montessori spaces, we aim to provide an educator as part of the new parent's care team in the first three years. These first three years of development are critical to the child's well-being for the rest of their lives and too often, new parents are left to themselves to figure it out! Having an educator on the care team allows for developmental guidance on each of the milestones from before birth through three years. This is the time to build a foundation for literacy, move through toilet learning, have foundational social skills, and so much more. As Montessori teachers and parents, they both discuss their work as "Assistants to Infancy" and how families can better understand this role to suit their family's needs during this crucial time.

The PEACEful Parenting Podcast, Season 3, Ep. 4: "Beauty and Space"

Katalin and Mariana discuss the idea of "beauty" in Montessori spaces: what does it mean and what is the importance of it for the child? How can we avoid seeing "beauty" as "perfect" or "expensive," which is not what Dr. Montessori meant when she advocated for children to be in beautiful spaces, and more about it's true essence: purposeful spaces that have intention and thought about the child using them. As experienced Montessori teachers and parents, they both discuss their use of "beauty" in these environments for children.

“I first got in touch with Montessori education in 2016 when I started to work in an infant community of an early years setting which followed the Montessori philosophy. The first Montessori course I took was an AMI Assistants Certificate course. I loved it so much I decided to take it to the next level and take the AMI Diploma 0-3 which I graduated from in 2018..."

Disability History Month.jpeg

A child with hearing aid at the playground, a woman in a wheelchair at the grocery store, people using sign language on the train. How do we explain diversity to our children in a respectful and responsible way?

As a mother and a Montessori educator, I feel responsible to introduce diversity and inclusion to my child, children I may get the chance to spend time together with and encourage parents and families as a PEACE facilitator to have conversations about this very relevant topic.

Children have the sensitive period of movement, when they are eager to move following their natural patterns. Isn’t it beautiful to observe their development when they start to slither or turn from tummy to their back or vice versa? We are happy seeing them crawling, excited when they pull up to stand and start cruising along furniture; not even mention when they reach the developmental milestone of walking! Don’t rush the child and try putting him into commercial baby equipment such as a baby walker, what is even banned in many European countries!

A Toddler Guide to Prepare for Toilet Independence with Katalin Lovassy

"It’s a wonderful gift to guide your little ones on their journey to becoming independent. This is also a great milestone for self-care. Plus, in the years before the development of the disposable nappy/diaper, most children were toilet independent before 18 months because they had awareness of their body, felt wet when they were, and finally had the motor skill of walking to complete all the steps. Below are some ideas that follow this developmental timeline about how to support your young toddler to prepare for toilet independence..."
